Online marketing jobs are of a wide variety. This article aims to give you a good overview of the different types of Internet marketing jobs that are available. If you want to start an Internet marketing career, we hope you’ll find this article to be resourceful.
When I was assigned with creating an article on Internet marketing jobs, one of the first things I thought was, “I’m an entrepreneur, and am in Internet marketing so that I won’t have to have a job!” However, right away, I realized who the target reader for this article was: those who are looking for careers related to Internet marketing.
Internet Marketing Jobs
SEO jobs are one of the first e-commerce-related job types that I spoted when I was researching for this article, and it might be the easist one to get into. SEO stands for search engine optimization. SEO involves a lot of things, but ultimately, it’s the process of making a website or webpage more visible in the search engine results. That is, there’s a reason why certain sites appear more often, or “rank better,” as they say in the SEO indstry. That’s what a good job of SEO does: it helps sites rank better.
Next are the Internet advertising jobs, and there’s a lot of variety here. For one, you can work in-house at the Internet marketing center of a company with a web presence, managing their marketing campaigns. Or, you can be working at an Internet advertising company, such as Google’s Adwords team, a banner ad company, or any of the numerous advertising companies out there.
Video’s a big thing on the Internet, so your advertising job may involve creating exciting marketing videos to distribute across video sites like YouTube.
If you enjoy crafting sales messages, then maybe an email marketing job is something you’d like. Email marketing is big with companies like Amazon. Of course, if you wanted to be considered as a prime candidate for an email marketing position, you should understand the CAN-SPAM Act and why it’s so important.
Let me just give you a few details:
- First of all, I’m sure you’ve seen spam in your inbox, and it’s actually illegal to send uninvited commercially-oriented e-mail messages. (I should also mention that this isn’t legal advice, and that I’m just trying to inform you about a few things I think you should know about permission-based e-mail marketing.)
- The proliferation of spam being sent across the Internet got so bad that the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 had to be passed. In summary, it basically says that before you, the advertiser/marketer, can send commerially-oriented messages to people, you must have their permission. You also have to give them the option of opting out (unsubscribing), so that they don’t receive any more messages from you. This is called permission-based or opt-in e-mail marketing.
- There’s a tool you can use (that you pretty much need) to do permission-based e-mail marketing: an autoresponder. You can utilize the services of an autoresponder company, or your company could create it’s own autoresponder. Generally speaking, for small companies, it’s better to use the services of an established autoresponder company like Aweber, because Aweber has built trust with many of the e-mail providers on the Internet. For example, chances are that when Gmail sees an incoming email message from Aweber (on your company’s behalf), it’ll land in the receipient’s inbox, instead of the spam folder.
Affiliate marketing jobs are next, and one of the most established of these is the position of affiliate manager. Certain affiliate marketing companies (and also, Cost-Per-Aquisition companies) have affiliate managers. Depending on the size of the company and/or the number of affiliates in the company, there might be more than one affiliate manager. If there’s more than one affiliate manager in the company, then the number of affiliates is divided among the affiliate managers, and each manager has a number of affiliates assinged to them.
That’s about it for now. We hope this article has given you a good overview of the many “make money online” jobs out there.
