Perpetutal Traffic Formula‘s creator, Ryan Deiss, received a lot of e-mails in response to his Perpetual Traffic Report.  These e-mails were from people who wanted to know about his upcoming launch.  So many people had sent e-mails, that Ryan’s inbox was full of them.  So, in an attempt to make things more clear, Ryan decided to record 2 videos.  This news item will explore these 2 new videos.

The 2 videos were released Tuesday, July 20th, 2010.  They were recorded in succession—one right after the other.  They have a combined running time of about 17 minutes, and feature Ryan with a whiteboard that he uses to explain certain concepts that were explored in this report that was released the day earlier.

Ryan begins the first video by making the view feel familiar with him (if they’re followers of Ryan’s work), and telling you his story.  Basically, Ryan despises Adwords, did search engine optimization until around 2007, and then most recently, returned back to doing SEO.  Search engine optimization is basically what Perpetual Traffic Formula is all about, but, Ryan makes one thing clear:

“Not Just Another SEO Course”

Ryan’s Perpetual Traffic Formula, even if you wanted to call it a course, is not like most other SEO course, because according to Ryan, mot SEO courses are too technical for the average person.

“Clickshift Has Begun”

On the whiteboard, Ryan had a rough drawing of a search engine results page.  At this point in his presentation, he talked about the clickthrough rate distribution throughout the organic and sponsored results.  He used the catchy phrase, “clickshift has begun,” to relay the fact that more and more, searchers are clicking on the organic results more often than the sponsored results.  This fact is so significant that even organic results in positon numbers 4 through 10 get as much (or more) clicks as the sponsored results that are higher up on the page.

Perpetual Traffic Formula: The Happy Medium Between Whitehat and Blackhat

In the second video, Ryan goes on to explain what’s meant by the terms, whitehat and blackhat.  In case you don’t know, here’s a basic summary:

Whitehat SEO is, generally speaking, the preferred form of SEO.  It’s clean, by-the-rules SEO that obeys search engine guidelines.  It takes the long-term approach to achieving good search rankings. The problem with whitehat is that it can take a long time to rank.

Blackhat SEO is aggressive, spam-like SEO where the blackhat guys use computer tricks to manipulate the search engines in order to get their pages ranked.   One assumption people have about blackhat SEO (which may not always be true) is that the webpages of blackhat sites are not even pages that people will enjoy.  But the blackhat guys don’t care: if they can get traffic to their sites, that’s all that matters to them.  Blackhats are always battling the search engines: Google and others catch on to their tricks, and then, the blackhats invent more tricks, and so on.  Blackhat is a short-term approach, because blackhat sites are routinely de-indexed from the search engines.

Blackhat can and does work if the blackhat really, really knows what he or she is doing, but it’s not a good foundation for building a long-term business.

Perpetual Traffic Formula is the happy medium between these 2.

When coming up with these underlying methodologies, Ryan asked, “How could we get all the speed and certainty of blackhat to make sure that we get our sites, get our pages ranked for the keywords we want ‘em to rank for, but how do we get the longevity of whitehat?  And that’s what we were able to do with Perpetual Traffic.”

Now, you may be thinking, “Then isn’t Perpetual Traffic grey hat?”  Ryan never used the term greyhat, but we think Perpetual Traffic Formula is so different to even call it greyhat wouldn’t do it justice.  (Greyhat, by the way, just means aggressively practicing whitehat SEO, and bordering on some blackhat techniques.)

Ryan then went on to talk about the Ranking Triad, which is a concept he introduced in his report.
