Perpetual Traffic Formula just went live on Tuesday, July 28th, 2010, at 3pm EST.  The sales page had a few components: the Perpetual Traffic Formula logo, a 54-minute video, 2 order buttons (one for the single-payment option, the other for the 3-pay option), a phone number, and some standard links (contact, privacy, and disclaimer).

I watched the whole video, and in this article, I’ll tell you about what’s included in Ryan Deiss’ Perpetual Traffic Formula.

But first, let’s just start by telling you what we learned before Perpetual Traffic Formula went live, since we had been following the entire pre-launch sequence.

This screenshot illustrates statistics backing the viability of focusing on natural search engine rankings.

It starts with Ryan Deiss’ story of his seemingly love-hate relationship with Google.  (Perpetual Traffic Formula isn’t primarily about Google Adwords, but Ryan used to do Adwords.)

Over the past number of years (Ryan has been marketing online since 2003, at least), Ryan’s preference for attracting traffic has been one of two things: organic search results rankings, or paid, sponsored search placement (via Adwords and other pay-per-click models).  First, he was oriented toward organic rankings (an “SEO guy”), then, in 2007, when Ryan’s sites had lost rankings due to some Google algorythm changes, he essentially “swore off Google”.  (By “swore off Google,” we mean he switched from organic rankings to investing in pay-per-click.)

This is what we mean when we say he had a sort of love-hate relationship with Google traffic generation.

So, from about 2007 to 2009, Ryan was basically focused on paid traffic.  During this time, he even created a product about Facebook advertising.  It was called Facebook Ad Power, and we wrote a review of it.

One thing to note in this story is that, while Ryan chose to turn away from natural, organic search engine traffic, some of his friends still stayed with natural search: they just adjusted a few things so that their sites reflected the new algorythm changes, and they were back in business.

But Ryan didn’t do that.  And now, he wishes he had.

This is because Ryan eventually heard that some of his friends just made some changes, and were back in business (as far as natural rankings are concerned).

So, for the past few months, Ryan did a lot of investment and testing.  In fact, in the Perpetual Traffic Formula video, he stated something like $400,000 invested in research and development.

Ryan’s pre-launch content cataloged a lot of these developments.  The Perpetual Traffic Report is what really started the pre-launch.  Then, Ryan released the Cherry Picker software, then The Authority Codes.  He also released a few videos answering common questions and clarifying things.

Perpetual Traffic Formula is a program, or a course, that has a focus that can be boiled down to 2 things: traffic and conversion.  When it comes to organic, free traffic (which is the major focus of the program), there’s a fine balance between ranking (traffic) and conversion, and Ryan helps you find this balance.

Perpetual Traffic Formula‘s 7-Step Sequence

If you saw the 64-minute video that Ryan created, where he answered a series of questions about Perpetual Traffic Formula, you’ll recall that he mentioned something about how he’d reveal his sequence.

Well, he did on the salesvideo.

1.The Playground.  This is essentially the market research phase.  Before you really start, you want to know with the almost absolute certainty that you’ll choose  something (markets, keywords) that you can succeed at.
2.The Bait.  This is your structure and content. It’s very important that you website be of the right structure.  This is so important that if it’s done wrong, you might have to just start a new site.

3.The Pump.  This is where you “prime the pump,” and is the first phase in link building.  You only need 10 to 30 quality links at this time.

4.The Shake.  This is where you do phase 3 of linking, which involves 300 to 400 links to your site, and is the first phase of activity.  Some paid traffic is covered here, too.

5.The Stir.  This involves massive activity and visitor engagement.

6.The Hammer.  This is the third phase of linking, and involves massive linking.  At this point, your solidifying rankings can intimidate your competitors and involves content syndication.

7.The Factory.  Now that you’ve attained your goal, it’s time to stay there.  This is just maintenance, but the system, for the most part, runs on it’s own.
