Product Launch Formula 3‘s viewers and fans got another treat recently. Jeff Walker, the creator of Product Launch Formula, just released his “Fireside Chat” video. It’s titled that way because as you can see on the right, Jeff recorded this video literally beside a fireplace. He had just gone for a run in the woods (which is what he does to maintain clarity during a launch), and returned to film a video. The aim of this fireside chat video was to answer a few more of the numerous questions people had asked on the Product Launch blog.

One of the first things that Jeff gets into is why he’s so passionate about the product launch process, and the PLF ideology itself. He basically says that it’s because of what it’s done for him. If you know Jeff’s story, which starts in 1996, you know that, financially speaking, he was in a tough situation. He basically had a very small list, and did a launch to that list, and had better results than he had anticipated.

Another question Jeff was asked was about who these launches were best for. He said that for people who were just starting out, this is great for them. In Jeff’s opinion, it really is the best way to start a business.

But Product Launch Formula isn’t limited to those who are just starting out. Far from it.

Product launches are “money in the bank” for established businesses that have lists. What you can do, if you’re already established, is something called an internal launch. No need for affiliates or joint venture partners with this one: all you do is a product launch to your own internal list of prospects or customers.

Product Launch Formula can also work for those who run seasonal e-commerce businesses. One of Jeff’s favorite case studies has to do with someone who sells equipment to marching bands. Things such as gloves, batons, and the like. In the summer months, sales of marching band equipment is low. So, what this person does is he has product launches during this down time. This helps to increase revenue and keep the business more profitable.

Product Launch Formula is also great for affiliates, not just product or service vendors. As an affiliate, you can even use Jeff’s methods to promote products that have already been launched. Of course, probably the best scenario is to hear about a hot product that’s about to be launched, which you can promote as an affiliate. You can piggy-back off the pre-launch buzz and anticipation that comes when an informed fan base knows about an upcoming product.

And, as Jeff later went on to say, it’s not limited to those who have products either (whether they be informational/downloadable, or physical). PLF can also work for those who have a service.

Another question Jeff was asked on his product launch blog has to do with lists. “Do you need a list?” Yes, you do, but our understanding is that it works two ways: you need a list to launch a product, and secondly, you can build a list (or grow one) when you launch a product.

We know this sounds like a circular definition, but think of it this way: if you don’t have a list, you can slowly build one as you segue into your pre-launch. Then, as you’re doing your pre-launch, your list grows. You only need a small, seed list. Then, you launch to your small list. What you’ve done now is, during the pre-launch process, you’ve started to grow a list. Then, at the launch, you have a list to launch to.

That’s why Jeff says that the best way to start a list is with a product launch.

In fact, as far as list-building is concerned, Jeff went on a bit of a rant because he wanted to emphasize just how important it was to your business that you build a prospect (and customer) list. Regardless of whether you got his upcoming product, you have to have a list.

Another question was “Why do launches work so well?” They work well because they cut through the clutter.

One hesitation that some feel about Product Launch Formula is that they won’t work in their market. Jeff’s answer is that, unless you’re in a market that provides emergency services, they’ll work, no matter what your market is.

Another consideration is market (or niche) size. But again, previous students of PLF have successfully launched products in very very obscure niches.

What’s In Product Launch Formula 3? What Is It?

First of all, unlike previous versions of Product Launch Formula, this one is brand new—redesigned from the ground up. Things have changed over the past year (the new FTC regulations being one of them), and as such, Jeff has had to adjust accordingly. The great thing, though, is that product launches work better than ever.

Also, this is an online class. There are 5 modules that will be delivered every 7 to 10 days, depending on how Jeff about the pace that the students are grasping the materials. There will also be coaching calls. Of course, these will very likely be recorded, and as with most digitally-delivered learning programs, you can move at your own pace.

One characteristic that Jeff emphasized is that this is more step-by-step than before. He’s made things more fill-in-the-blank. For example, he said in the video that there’s a place where you answer about 5 questions. And, as a result of answering these 5 questions, you then have your launch story. It’s that simple.

And speaking of simple, Jeff said that he has the ability to take the complex, and break it down. Yes, a product launch can have a lot of moving parts, and you have to know all of them, but there’s a simplicity to it all that Jeff is able to convey to you.
