An online marketing campaign is made of many vital elements, one of them being having a good content marketing strategy in place. Delivering the right message to the target audience plays a crucial role in the overall execution of your web marketing program. If you are serious about taking your Internet marketing to the next level, you need to actively take part in the social web. The content that you create for social media channels should be treated with utmost importance, as it can create a powerful impact. Also, when creating your own content strategy for social media, it’s important to know what exactly your network will find valuable.

When you think about building value within a social network, think practically. For example, if you build a network of 3,000 friends on Facebook and don’t have a clear idea of what you want them to do, will it be of any use? It’s a common thought that there’s a certain connection between the size of a network and the effectiveness of that marketing campaign. However, when we talk about social media, quality plays a bigger role than quantity.

This is why you need to gather insight and learn more about your audience when creating a social media content strategy. This can be achieved through effective participation, employing various monitoring tools, analyzing and studying the traffic generated through social media sites and using third party data reporting tools such as Quantcast, Hitwise, etc.

All of the above applies only when you have unique content that communicates directly to your audience. So, how do you get that? A good way is to use your network to generate content, which is also called UGC or user generated content. In other words, give them the means to create and contribute their own content. This includes but is not limited to, videos, images, user generated articles, or any other content that can be shared and promoted. Also, you might already have good unique content, just look into your resources such as white papers, case studies, articles or even blog posts. You can start off there or if not, just repurpose that content.

The Web 2.0 era is here to stay; being active by creating your own content strategy for social media will take your online marketing efforts a long way.
